NEST THERMOSTAT CONTROLS
Nest Thermostats don’t have a touch screen. Use the touch bar on the right side to control your thermostat. Swipe up to raise the temperature, swipe down to lower it, and tap to confirm. The display will show you how many minutes until your desired temperature is reached.
- Tap the touch bar to bring up the menu.
- Swipe up or down to select an option.
- Tap the touch bar again to confirm your selection.
There are four thermostats in the home: First Floor, First Floor Master, Second Floor - Back, and Second Floor - Front. The thermostats maintain a fairly even temperature throughout the entire home.
The thermostats are pre-set for a "COMFORT" setting of 74 degrees. For most situations that should be quite comfortable. However, feel free to adjust the thermostats to whatever is reasonable and comfortable for you and your family or group. In addition, please remember that the ceiling fans will provide significant additional cooling.
The cooling system will operate best at a temperature setting greater than 71 degrees, ideally anywhere between 72 and 76 degrees. Setting the thermostats lower than that greatly increases the chance of damaging the cooling units and causing a shut-down.
DO NOT SET THE THERMOSTATS TO LOWER THAN 71 DEGREES.
Because of Florida’s high humidity and heat these large houses operate very differently than homes you might be familiar with from New York, Illinois or Arizona. On a hot, humid day it is virtually impossible to get the house to lower than 71 degrees. If you try, you will ice-over or freeze the units and then you’ll lose all cooling for 1-2 days and will be responsible for the repair costs.
Be aware that each day at 8AM the thermostats will return to their "COMFORT" setting. In addition, the thermostats will also sense if the home is empty and all guests are away. When that happens the thermostats will set the temperature to "ECO" mode and will move all thermostats to 76 degrees. As soon as people return to the home the thermostats will immediately return to the "COMFORT" setting of 74 degrees.
While we acknowledge that this may be somewhat inconvenient for our guests, it helps keep the AC units operational and avoids "ice-overs" and shutdowns from an inadvertent too-low setting.
We would also remind you that if you want the home to cool down setting the thermostat to an artificially low setting (especially less than 71 degrees) will NOT cool down the home any sooner, but will raise the risk of damaging the AC unit.
Also please do not close supply vents in any room. Doing that will not drive more cooling into other rooms but will risk damaging the units by unbalancing the airflow within that HVAC zone.
